An individual’s social inhibition disappears and he or she feels an increased sexual sensation. Long before it got classified as a controlled substance, it has been used by many psychiatrists in making their patients talk them freely and openly.

Ecstasy is a drug whose usage has dramatically increased over the last few years.

Recent statistics show that nearly 12% of high school students have used the drug at least once in their entire lifetime. The drug has captured the media’s attention lately because of its rapidly increasing abuse rates and highly publicized ecstasy-related deaths. Ecstasy is widely distributed these days illegally and almost fifty percent of teenagers claim that they can get one easily. MDMA can come in tablet form branded as Nike swoosh, Playboy Bunnies or CK. Ecstasy’s average dose is 100 milligrams. It usually takes effect twenty minutes after ingestion and may last up to 6 hours. Toxicity is also potentiated with alcohol use. Individuals who have used the drug recreationally have also experienced poor performance in memory, attention and other intellectual tasks.

Treatment Programs

Many drug rehab facilities offer specialized programs for ecstasy abuse and addiction which can be found under the ecstasy rehab guide.

Clients are required to undergo MDMA detoxification, counseling and several aftercare services. MDMA detox is done to completely rid the body of the harmful substance. The human body goes through a cleansing phase as it eliminates toxins brought about my MDMA abuse. During this treatment phase, a client may experience unpleasant and potentially fatal side effects. Patients are closely monitored by medical health professionals during the drug detox. After physically treating the body, psychological interventions then come next.

Counseling Programs

Most rehab centers offer two types of counseling programs namely individual and group therapies.

Individual counseling is between the patient and the counselor only. A therapist tries to discover an individual’s personal issues that may have provoked the ecstasy addiction. Therapists provide healthy solutions and advices on how to cope with those issues in life.

On the other hand, group counseling enables clients to meet with other people who share the same addiction problem and sentiments. During these group sessions, clients are encouraged to share their stories, experiences and feelings with each other. Group counseling can serve as an efficient support group that will help ecstasy abusers feel more accepted and understood.

Ecstasy counseling also continues even after the treatment itself. Aftercare services are usually made up of counseling sessions that help clients bring their life back after receiving drug treatment. The world offers recovering individuals temptations, stressors and relational problems. Aftercare counseling services are designed to help clients deal with these triggers and stressors.
