Grand Forks Alcohol and Drug Rehab Listings
An old-fashioned Town Hall meeting was held in the fall of 2012 in Grand Forks, ND to address the issue of drug and alcohol abuse. Sponsored by the town of Grand Forks, the University of North Dakota, and Altru Health System, this meeting was the first of its kind. Focusing on the negative consequences, the sponsors hoped that this Town Hall meeting would help to prevent future drug and alcohol abuse in the community and on campus.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Benefits
When an individual is identified as having substance abuse issues, professional treatment is usually necessary. A number of treatments and therapies are available to help treat drug and alcohol abuse, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This method operates on the assumption that people can change how they think and how they react to situations. Substance abusers learn to recognize things that might lead them to use alcohol or drugs such as stressors, certain friends, or circumstances. Two main components of this type of therapy include:
- Functional analysis. The patient gains insight into their drug abuse behavior. Problem situations are also identified.
- Skills training. Individuals learn new ways to cope with problems and issues. The counselor encourages the patient to think differently about their substance abuse. As old habits are unlearned, the individual learns how to replace them with healthy habits.
