Cairo is a vibrant city, blending cultural relics with the buzz of a modern urban center. Universities, modern hospitals, media centers, and business headquarters are clustered in Cairo, the largest city in Africa.
As one of the busiest and largest cities in the world, it boasts plenty of entertainment opportunities. Cairo is strategically located between many of the great civilizations and empires of the last several thousand years. Because of these connections, Cairo has remained an important part of ancient history and the modern world.
Cairo Drug Rehab Centers
Despite Cairo’s modern offerings, it is still discovering the full extent of the drug addiction problem within its borders.
Drug treatment centers do not yet seem to be in demand by the public. Drug addiction seems to be a growing problem, yet the amount of treatment centers and trained professionals does not seem to be growing with that need. Drug addiction remains a difficult problem to address, even more so if people don’t have many treatment options. The media has been putting a bigger spotlight on this need in the last several years.
The professional mental health community in Cairo is in a bind. Psychiatrists recognize the growing need for drug treatment centers in their city, across Egypt, and all over the Middle East region. However, they also see that drug treatment centers and drug treatment professionals are fewer than necessary. Government funding for drug rehab programs is sparse and the public lacks good information and awareness.
Finding Drug Treatment in Cairo
Fortunately, there are some well known reliable facilities in Cairo that do treat drug addiction problems. The Institute of Psychiatry at Ain Shams University in Cairo treats about 1000 recovering addicts per year. The Institute has 100 beds devoted to drug addiction treatment. The Psychiatric Health Resort is directed by Dr. Ahmed Okasha. The resort has comprehensive services for mental illness and addiction. They specialize each addict’s recovery program according to their cultural and religious needs.
Dedicated psychiatrists continue to push for the creation of more drug rehab centers, especially focused on women’s needs.
Addiction and mental health professionals are meeting on a regular basis to keep pushing forward with this issue. Rest assured – drug addicts will get good care from the specialty centers mentioned above. In the coming years, Egypt will have an important role with the expansion of drug treatment services in the Middle East.
